James Pooley

Jim represents clients in patent, trade secret, and technology-related commercial litigation, and provides advice on IP strategy and data security management. He has authored and co-authored several major publications in the IP field. The Senate Judiciary Committee relied on his expert testimony and advice during consideration of the 2016 Defend Trade Secrets Act. In 2014, Jim completed a five-year term as Deputy Director General at the World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva, where he was responsible for management of the international patent system. He is a past President of the American Intellectual Property Law Association. He currently serves as Chairman of the National Inventors Hall of Fame Selection Board, and teaches trade secret law at the University of California’s Berkeley School of Law. In 2016 Jim was inducted into the IP Hall of Fame for his contributions to IP law and practice. Jim is Chair of the newly formed The Sedona Conference Working Group 12 on Trade Secrets (WG12).
