Dr. Clarisse Girot

Clarisse is Senior Fellow at the Asian Business Law Institute (ABLI) chaired by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon of the Supreme Court of Singapore. Since 2017, Clarisse has been leading ABLI’s Data Privacy Project on the convergence of regulations on cross-border data transfers in 14 Asian jurisdictions. The first deliverable of the project is a unique publication of Jurisdictional Reports on the regulation of cross-border transfers of personal data. Prior to relocating to Singapore, Clarisse was based in Paris where she acted as Counsellor to the President of the French Data Protection Authority (CNIL) and Chair of the Article 29 Working Party. From 2004 to 2008, she was head of CNIL’s department of European and International Affairs. In that capacity, she sat on the Article 29 Working Party, the group of EU Data Protection Authorities, and was involved in major international cases in data protection and privacy. Clarisse graduated from the Law Faculty of the University of Paris-II with a Masters in Intellectual Property in 1994. She holds an M.Jur. from the University of Oxford (1994) and a PhD from the University of Tilburg in the Netherlands (cum laude, 2001).
