Judge Segal has served as a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Central District of California since 2002, during which time she also served a four-year term as the Chief Magistrate Judge. Before her appointment to the bench, Judge Segal served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division of the Los Angeles U.S. Attorney’s Office, from 1990–2002, where she was Chief of Civil Appeals from 1999–2002. After graduating from Claremont McKenna College in 1982, and Cornell Law School in 1987, Judge Segal was an associate at Dewey, Ballantine in Los Angeles. She is a member of the Executive Committee of the Litigation Section of the Los Angeles County Bar, the Board of Directors for the Federal Bar Association of Los Angeles, the Executive Committee for the Litigation Section of the Federal Bar Association, and served for two years as President of the Paul R. Michael Intellectual Property Inn of Court, where she remains a member of the Executive Committee. Judge Segal has served as a member of the Board of Governors and the Judicial Advisory Council for the Association of Business Trial Lawyers, Los Angeles Chapter. Judge Segal has taught as an Adjunct Professor of Law at UCLA School of Law and Loyola Law School.
