Ellis joined the ICO as Data Ethics Adviser in November 2019. Previously Ellis had been the Global Lead for Data Privacy at BP for over eight years, and before that he was Global Privacy Officer at the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca for eight years. Ellis is a solicitor with 19 years' PQE, an MBA and is a contributing author to Sweet & Maxwell's Data Protection Law & Practice 4th and 5th editions and its standalone guide to the GDPR. His experience encompasses all aspects of information rights laws with a particular focus and interest on ethical implications of big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning and their intersection with the GDPR in particular in the field of bioethics.
