Peter is Chairman of the European Academy for Freedom of Information and Data Protection (EAID), former German Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (2003-2013), Chairman of the arbitration board of the gematik (Association for Health Telematics), and a lecturer at University of Hamburg. He is the author of several books, and was awarded The Political Book of the Year (Gemany) in 2008, German Internet Award (eco Association of Internet Industry) in 2013, the German Data Protection Award in 2013, and the Louis D. Brandeis Privacy Award (US Patient Privacy Rights) in 2014.
