Dr Klaus Grabinski was appointed as Justice in the Federal Court of Justice (Bundesgerichtshof), the Supreme Court of Civil and Criminal law matters in Germany, in 2009. At the Federal Court of Justice he is allocated to the 10th Civil Division (X. Zivilsenat) which has inter alia jurisdiction in patent dispute matters. Since June 2020 he is Deputy Presiding Justice of the Division. Before joining the Federal Court of Justice, he was, inter alia, Judge at the Düsseldorf Higher Regional Court and Presiding Judge of a Patent Litigation Division at the Düsseldorf Regional Court. He is co-author of the “Benkard”-commentaries on the European Patent Convention and the German Patent Act. He was a member of Advisory Committees of the German Ministry of Justice and the European Commission (Internal Market) and is member of an Expert Panel that is advising the Administrative Committee of the Unified Patent Court on different work streams. He is an external legally qualified member of the EPO Enlarged Board of Appeal.
