Jim is a Principal at Troutman Pepper eMerge, where he consults with case teams and external clients to develop strategies and discovery plans for a wide array of litigation matters in state and federal courts, as well as arbitrations, governmental investigations and regulatory proceedings. Jim advises clients on all phases of discovery, negotiates discovery agreements, and advocates for clients involved in discovery disputes. He has managed the discovery process on a variety of matters including construction litigation, products liability litigation, antitrust and other regulatory approval proceedings, SEC and DOJ investigations, commercial litigation, trade secret litigation, and patent infringement claims. Jim has experience developing, implementing, and managing cross-border discovery plans for several clients, including in large-scale multiparty matters. He also takes 30(b)(6) depositions on discovery topics and uses the knowledge gained to advocate for his clients. Jim is a member of The Sedona Conference Working Group 1 on Electronic Document Retention and Production (WG1), The Sedona Conference Working Group 6 on International Electronic Information Management, Discovery and Disclosure (WG6), and the International Association of Privacy Professionals.
