James is E-Discovery Counsel & Director of Practice Technologies at Patterson Belknap Webb & Tyler LLP. He has more than seventeen years of litigation experience, including more than a decade of managing each phase of the electronic discovery process for cases filed in state and federal courts across the country. Before attending law school, James was a computer programmer and systems analyst for nearly a decade, working on IBM mainframe computers with OS/MVS operating systems, using OS Assembler and Cobol, CICS and DB2 database technology. James is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals and a Certified E-Discovery Specialist (CEDS) through the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists. In 2012, he contributed to the December 2012 Report of the E-Discovery Committee of the New York State Bar Association entitled Best Practices in E-Discovery In New York State and Federal Courts; and in 2009, he helped to draft the New York State Supreme Court, Nassau County Commercial Division’s Electronic Discovery Guidelines. Between 2012–2014, James contributed to the Sedona Conference’s Commentary on Rule 34 and Rule 45 “Possession, Custody, or Control”.
