Judge Tostrud was nominated to the federal bench by President Trump and confirmed by the Senate in September 2018. He earned his J.D. summa cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law. After clerking for U.S. District Judge Edward Devitt here in the District of Minnesota and on the D.C. Circuit for Judge George MacKinnon, Judge Tostrud practiced with the Minneapolis firm Lockridge Grindal Nauen. Throughout his career, Judge Tostrud taught often at Mitchell Hamline and the University of Minnesota law schools.
